You don't say what kind of adhesive so I am going to make an asumption that it's the sticky gel type. Most adhesives will return to a more liquid state with heat so there are two things you can try.

1) Hold the shoe under a stream of HOT running water for a few mintues then take a rough cloth (like an old wash rag) and wipe in one direction to remove the adhesive. Or, if that doesn't work....

2) Place a double layer of paper towels over the adhesive on the shoe. Over that, place a thin towel or old t-shirt. Then take an iron (set on the highest level) and run the iron over the area several times. This should make the adhesive liquid enough that it is absorbed in the paper towels and therefore removed from the shoe. Check the paper towels often and replace as needed until all the adhesive is removed.

Hope that helps!
Try Goo Gone. It works so good.

Once you have a bottle of it...you will use it often.

Here is their web site. Click on it to see where you can find it in your area.

goo gone. It comes in a spray that you can easily spray on let set a min and scrub off with a cloth or something. Really does work like a charm on sticky things.
